Hi Nick.
try opening the rpm with a mc (midnight commander) and see where it puts the 
files, then find totem (i am not familiar with totem BTW) config file, should 
be languishing in /etc and see if it has something to say about the codec 
directory, it should, then correct the config file, and you should be OK ...
