id not say that you had to do anything, let alone acknowledge BG as a
visionary or wizard. I only meant to say that while I was still in diapers, this guy was actually writing code, and some of it was quite good (according to some sources that I trust). We get no where with the personal attacks. I have never met BG, nor do I particularly care to. I also do not care to call him names, nor do I wish any ill will. Really what I am about is focusing on the things that are important to me, one of which is this whole open source thingy.
Not to hijack a thread but I recently came something disturbing like this, that paints the FLOSS community in a definite bad light. I am not saying that we are all prefect, or that we are not human either, but I have always thought that "in general" the FLOSS community thinks, acts & operates with a higher set of behavioural standards. Please note the "IN GENERAL" does not refer to everyone.
The incident I am referring to has to do with Linux Mint & one of its main developer's Clem. On his blog he posted something to the effect that "if you are Jewish or support them in the whole Jewish/Palestine situation, we don't want your money & we don't want you using Linux Mint."
He later retracted his comments, apologized & deleted the comments, but it is all over the net & as we know nothing is ever deleted off the InterWeb. Reactions have ranged from disgusted to whatever, but the long and short of the one article I read stated that "comments like this are needed or welcomed in the FLOSS community." People's personal political ideas have nothing to do with how the technology is used & who uses it. OSS is all about personal choice & using what you want to to get the job done.
In the same way that people are watching MS, they are also watching the FLOSS community including CLUG. SO anytime we mock BG, Monkey-boy, etc. we need to be careful what we say & how we say it. If it is a valid criticism that can be supported, Great! If it is a general comment or something fun & silly...hey why not! But personal attacks in a public forum do a lot more damage then MS, Apple or anyone else can do.
I count myself as guilty of the above as well...and I should be ashamed. _______________________________________________ clug-talk mailing list [email protected] http://clug.ca/mailman/listinfo/clug-talk_clug.ca Mailing List Guidelines (http://clug.ca/ml_guidelines.php) **Please remove these lines when replying
