Dear Suzieq,

We had talked to each other about your PCR results before, I think.
Anyway, what the report is partly saying is that the sensitivity is 1
in 100,000 or it can detect 1 bad cell out of 100,000 total cells,
which is what is recommended. Your result is 0.007%, what you may need
to find out is what log reduction that is, different labs will be
different.

Here is a website on low platelet counts, the normal is
140,000-450,000 in our clinic.

Your Mom's doctor is a hematologist and they deal with all kinds of
blood diseases so I am sure he will look after your Mom well. With
thrombocytopenia (low platelet counts), sometimes the cause is not
known. Platelet transfusions are given if platelet counts are down.
There is a platelet booster called Neumega but not many doctors use it.
I know a patient whose doctor used Prednisone to boost the platelet
counts. Unfortunately, there is a low platelet conditon for which
cause is not known. I know a CMLer who has this condition. Since your
mother's counts are going down a lot, what you may want to do is
consult for a second medical opinion. It is always good to check out
two medical opinions, if they are both the same, you and your siblings
will gain more confidence in your Mom's current doctor. Also, the
second doctor may be able to suggest additional therapies. I hope your
Mom's counts begin looking up.

Love,
Anjana
