Hi Lee,
I was switched from Gleevec to sprycel because I developed Gleevec induced
hepititis. The doctors had to wait for Sprycel to be FDA approved. I was
then started on 70 mg bid which proved way to strong, just about wiped out
my platlets. I then had to wait for the bone marrow to recover and was then
put on only 20 mg bid. My pcr has been undectable for almost 2 years now
with very little side effects. My onocologist told me that 2 years pcru is
the benchmark and that your chances of coming out of remission is very
small. The side effects that I experienced are weight gain and some joint
pain but that has subsided. My worst side effect is digestion problems
which I had before CML but now I can't take prilosec. I do take Mylanta but
only two hours before or after taking sprycel. I have been extremely
careful with the sprycel and always take 12 hours apart. It is a miracle
drug that has worked very well for me.
best of luck to your friend. If they have any questions as to my experience
feel free to contact me.
