Interesting project. Let me know if the entry fee hits <$2,500.

What is Mexico's stance on joint ownership or time-share boat ownership within
their jurisdiction? My guess is it is OK if there is no hint of "for profit"
charter and a clear ownership document exists.

I have owned several sailboats that were operated as timeshare charters.
Mostly it was an OK experience. Great customers and clear expectations,
schedules, and financial agreements resulted in all stakeholders being
satisfied. When things went poorly (boat break-downs and damage etc.)
customers and owners were often disappointed.

I exited the timeshare business after a series of poorly trained, mostly
incompetent customers damaged the boat in entertaining ways. At that point the
financial benefit was not worth the aggravation. Calypso was not part of the
timeshare business as it is too old and complicated for charter customers.

I'll make it 4!

If we can get to 6 or 7, that brings the entry fee down to $7500 or less each,
for about a month each winter on the Pacific coast of Mexico. Maybe Wally could
comment on the best place to base her, haul her for the summer (if we elected
to do that), and have routine maintenance done.

When I lived near Allentown, PA a number of us in the local sailing club took
shares in a 35' boat out of Rock Hall, MD. Perhaps I can still find the bylaws
that spelled out how to pay for maintenance and how to divide up the cruising
time equitably.

I noticed last week that Outrider is for sale. It's tempting, that boat has
been almost totally fixed up, according to the listing. Mazatlan...nice and
warm this time of year.
