My 25 has Barient 22 2-speed primaries. 16s seem pretty small for your 27.
One speed 16s were the winches on the Rhodes 19 daysailors I used to sail
out of Burnham Harbor in Chicago.

The Power ratio for the Barient 22 is reportedly 39, and the chart I have
shows the Harken, Lewmar, and Anderson 40ST as the appropriate replacement.

Barient 21s have a power ratio of 30, and suggested replacement is Harken
and Lewmar 30 or Anderson 28.

Barient 17s can be replaced by Harken or Lewmar 16s, and Barient 18s by a
Lewmar 24 (can't say I've ever seen one of these).

The Arco website seems to suggest a power ratio of around 30 for a boat your
size, so the Anderson 28ST may be appropriate.

Subject: Stus-List Primary winches for MkII 27'

Hi Listers,
I'm seriously considering replacing the current (I assume factory
standard) Barient single-speed winches. I'm not at the boat at the moment,
I think they are 16s. Anyway, I am looking at the Anderson 28ST (two speed,
self tailers). Is the 28 too big, too small, what do you have on your 27?
Cheers,
Paul.
