We have a baby stay on our C&C 32 and regularly use it going to weather in more
than about 10 kts of wind as it helps bend the mast and therefore flatten the
main. Ours is attached to a track on the deck and we can easily release it
when off the wind of if the wind lightens. When jibing the chute I make sure
it is at my back when I do the jibe which keeps it out of the way when
attaching the pole to the mast. We occasionally use it in light air going down
wind as a fraculator.

I raced on a 29-2 with a symmetricl chute. It did not hve a baby stay. I have
a baby stay on my 35-3 and have used it once upwind into a sea. Otherwise it
is clipped near the base of the mast.

It's not a problem but I think it will be more effort and more powerful than
the J24 but maybe not as fast as the J24. Most of the 29's I have seen use a
triradial cut 180% kite with pole and downhaul and most also do end for end
jibes...very pretty boat and lots of fun when flying downwind

Subject: Stus-List C&C 29-2 Spinnaker

I am considering buying a C&C 29-2 (1983) and would like to know how/if a
symmetrical spinnaker would work on these boats. I am looking at a boat
nearby, but it only has a cruising asymmetrical spinnaker. My current boat
is a J/24 and I am looking for something a little more comfortable but also
performance oriented. Since I have a crew for racing on the J/24, we would
also want to set a spinnaker on the C&C. The problem is the baby/inner stay
that bisects the fore deck. Yes, I understand that we could disconnect it
for the downwind leg, but that seems to be added complexity that I would
rather avoid. The concern that I have is that the only photo of a
symmetrical spinnaker I can find on the WEB is the original sales brochure.
So, I am thinking its just a big hassle to fly a symmetrical on these boats.
Any thoughts?
