Brent, Although it was not a CB version, many years ago I delivered a C&C 34 from Ft. Lauderdale to Port Royal, Jamaica, no stops.
It was that experience that made me very interested in C&C’s and because of that when I happened to see what is now Ronin abandoned in a yard, I was confident in the fact that I would be owning what would be a very nice sailing and sea-keeping boat. I don’t think that you will be unduly disadvantage by having a CB version versus the full keel version. As others have mentioned, it would be perfect for a trip down the ICW and most certainly for the skinny areas of the Bahamas. My brother’s father-in-law, a 20-year Navy destroyer captain and lifelong sailboat racer and offshore cruiser wouldn’t have anything other that a CB sailboat. A favorable impression that I had about the boat was that although we spent most of the time going to windward down the "Thorny Path” it was easy to sail, pretty dry and comfortable. We didn’t experience any “big” seas fortunately and once we bore off and ran down the Trades to Jamaica with the ‘chute up it was great fun. And I concur with Chuck, pick your season, the right weather window and pretty much any well-found boat will be fine in the Bahamas. The CB will open up a lot more anchorages than the 6’ 8” draft of my boat which I have dreams of taking to the Bahamas. Sometimes it’s the journey, not the boat.
