I could not fix it without removing some of the old hoses. As expected, they all had to be cut apart, nothing was going to come loose. I heaved it all in the dumpster and got some new hose and a 1.5 inch 90 degree elbow. No matter how tight I made the clamps, it ended up leaking. I took it back to West Marine and did some comparisons with other 1.5? fittings. Most of them are a bit too big and you can?t even get them on without heating the hose up and using a lot of force. Say they are all maybe 1.6 inches in diameter. The 90 degree fittings are more like 1.4 inches. I ended up using a boat pole to fish the old plumbing back out of the dumpster and cutting the elbow out of that mess to use again. Final part of the rant: The Y-Valve has a smooth fitting that is a bit tight and doesn?t leak, but you can get the hose back off. Why can?t they ALL be that way! And do any of the other boats fly spinnakers or ASYMs?? Here in New England, Mass Bay Sailing gave up on PHRF and now has ORR_EZ as the handicap system. Most of us think it?s a fairer rule, but we?ll see, we?re in the second year of getting used to it. Best, Ron C. Impromptu C&C 38MKII, 77? vintage. My two cents: The ammount of prep needed will be determined by the competition. So if you're winning, relax. If you get some boats stripping out their cabins, or some "drysailed race only boats", you may need to slim down a lot. PHRF allows removing the cushions but not furniture. Still, many boats remove the table, stove, and pump all tanks dry. The most important thing for us was scrubbing the bottom prior to race. Our fleet had a few "mirror bottom" boats; w burnished bottom paint and one J24 that lived on a trailer and was craned in hours before a race. All with new sails and experienced crew. Lightening the boat is more important for light winds especially against well prepared higher rating boats. We raced one summer and never saw race winds above 8 knots. In one race, we followed a Viper 640 around the triangle course. There just wasn't enough wind to move the bigger, heavier boats. On our short triangle races, of 4.5 miles, my 93 rated 34R had to finish 5 minutes ahead to keep my place against a J28 rated 172. I couldn't afford new sails, but could afford a Hookah and regular scrubbing proved worth the investment. Have fun.
