Jakob Homan commented on HADOOP-6884:
-------------------------------------

The current patch seems to be a bit of a sledge hammer where a ball-peen might
be more appropriate. However, since Java doesn't give us any way of lazily
evaluating the arguments to a method, this check does seem to be a standard way
of working around this limitation. I'm a bit surprised at the debug logs in
the test cases. Doesn't it seem more reasonable to do all logging in tests at
an always-on level?

> Add LOG.isDebugEnabled() guard for each LOG.debug("...")

> Each LOG.debug("...") should be executed only if LOG.isDebugEnabled() is
> true, in some cases it's expensive to construct the string that is being
> printed to log. It's much easier to always use LOG.isDebugEnabled() because
> it's easier to check (rather than in each case reason whether it's necessary
> or not).
