Hermes was the messenger of the Greek/Olympic gods.  So, yes, it was nice
naming.

"Hermetic" comes from the same mythological figure, Hermes Trismegistus, as
he was believed to have invented a magic seal that would keep containers
airtight, hence "hermetically sealed."
