"Few" is very difficult :o)

Regarding the deferred Metro proposal I have a brief summary on;
http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=avalon-dev&m=109596375318828&w=2

Short story;
We have this simple request for our own (Metro) place to prosper, without the
legacy of bad reputation, hard feelings and heated debates. A place where we
can get on with the development of an exciting new product, that we believe
so much in, and where user showcases indicates true real-world successes.
We are currently 4 very active committers, and 2-3 users that are potential
new committers, and IMHO that should be more than enough, IF it wasn't for
the entire Avalon history (see below).

Long story follows, skip if not interested.

This is my personal impression of events that have occurred and interpretation
of them to the best of my limited objective abilities.

The issue in Avalon is very deep, and probably goes as far back as 2002 or
earlier, definately before 'my time' in Avalon. I think it boils down to
this;

Strong-headed, ambitious and very technically talented people were drawn to
Avalon, possibly by their own dreams of how Avalon should evolve and become.
And this couldn't be resolved on the drawing board. Some wanted a very 'so
called' light-weight system, and others wanted a more robust system.
So, the Container War ensued, where each group (typically one or two people)
forged ahead implementing their ideas, and along the way make strong enemies
with the others, including the incident of Peter Donald's dismissal from
Avalon (and AFAIU the rest of the ASF). Strong-man Berin Loritsch ran out of
steam with Fortress, and Stephen McConnell was the man standing when the dust
settled. From the beginning until now, many great people within ASF, such as
Barozzi, Mazzocchi, Simons, Hammant, Turner, was upset about the war-like
situation and left in disgust (right-fully so).
Left is an active set of committers rallying around Merlin, and the "old
enemies" who insist on creating hindrance whenever opportunity rises.
Left is also a "stamp" on Stephen McConnell, saying that he doesn't work
according to the Apache Way, that he bulldozes his ways through, is not
co-operative, and other negative sentiments regarding his community skills.
Enough so that the Board now declared that he is not fit for _any_ PMC.

Cheers
Niclas
