I honestly don't think this is worth our time. It seems the bell was rung by alarmists without good reason. The bill is about food safety, and they (the gov) have to do something to improve it. It is a shambles right now, people are dying because of it and criminals are not being held accountable. I want those peanut guys to do hard time for the misery they caused. If not this, it will be a different bill. I do not intend to read that one, as this has been an absolute waste of time.
Community gardens--that's where our focus should be.

PS: By govt standards, this bill is actually very terse.

Hi, everyone. I meant to finishing reading the WHOLE thing before I comment. However, I want to second what David said, it really gives you a HUGE headache reading the darn thing, lots of jargons. That's perhaps why people are so worried. Nevertheless, the word that I got from another listserv was this was pretty benign, and would be unlikely to get passed. My main concern with the bill is the establishment of a separate agency. Oh, boy. Reminds me of the Govermentium element email that was circulated.

Anyhow, the word is that this bill would be dropped in lieu of another similar one. Unfortunately, I can't remember which one. This other one has similar provisions, but will not establish another agency. There will be some wordsmithing to revised this one. I will email once I find which one it is if people are interested.

Like Mike, I've given the bill a quick read. Mind you, any other kind
of read requires some kind of headache pill that is stronger than what I have.

I see NO threat to our seeds in the bill. I see no MENTION of seeds in
the bill. So, I think that's a read herring - possibly well-read.

However, I am somewhat concerned that farmers selling at farmers'
markets will have to meet some record keeping and other standards that I think
are onerous. I worry for the future of the family farm if some of these
reporting and restrictions are implemented. I would like to see someone with
more education in law read it through and say what it means for our set of
constituents - it seems to me that small producers might end up in a pickle one more time as the laws are written to require more paperwork and reporting than
an average person can do in a year. (Reminds me to file my taxes...
sigh<< - not that I make so much, I work for a non-profit. I just
have to PROVE I don't make so much. Very unkind.)
