Hi, Folks! Most people find us through our VolunteerMatch.org listing or by a Google Search that takes them to the church's website. I've had a few questions from researchers that found our garden through the ACGA website, but no gardeners.
I know the Philly folks have found the database very frustrating because you have to have an account for each garden and you can't place multiple gardens. Betsey's offer that organizations can send a datasheet to the ACGA office and have staff enter all the community gardens should be prominently placed on the database webpage, along with the e-mail address of the contact person. Most organizations already have their own list and if they can just sent the attachment, we'll probably capture a lot more community gardens. Also, faith-based community gardens are just EXPLODING! I'm getting calls from suburban and rural churches in PA about how to set up a community garden on church land for food security purposes. The congregations are just scared to death in this economy and want to be able to help their communities, especially since the local food banks are completely overwhelmed. So, while community gardens may have been more urban in the past, the faith community is really taking up the cause in suburban and rural areas.
