Look into the history of the Edible Schoolyard in Berkeley Calif. 
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edible_Schoolyard....see if you can talk to any of 
the original developers of it. They pulled up a parking lot also...I agree with 
Ray of course, and as much land prep as you can muster is all the better...be
