SMD caps aren't that bad, the biggest problem is that you have two solder joints that must be simultaneously removed. A desoldering tool will allow you to suck the solder off one joint at a time, or you can use two soldering irons at once, but that can be an interesting juggling challenge. Do *NOT* attempt to bend the cap off one joint at a time because you may damage the board doing this. > I did not realize there were surface chip-type caps on the SEs & > Classics, so you may want to leave them for now -- anybody on the list > know if they are less prone to leaking than the regular kind or more > prone? More prone, especially ones manufactured in that time period. Late 80's-early 90's camcorders are plagued with these things too. Worse, low quality parts are still the industry average in this area, so buy Nichicon 105 degree caps as a replacements unless you want to be doing this again. -- Ryan Underwood, <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> -- Compact Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/>.
