I suspected it could be as you say but have no utility or boot floppies to test
from. I might be able to borrow an external CD drive this week and try a Norton
Utilities CD. At any rate I will want to open the case as some point and give it
a good cleaning. I appreciate you taking time to guide me toward Home Depot,
etc. I can go to those stores during lunch this week. 

I still own the only Mac I ever bought new. It's a IIci. I wanted a SE30 when
they came out but was still paying off the IIci.  :-)
