I suspected it could be as you say but have no utility or boot
floppies to test

Don't forget Apple has System 7.5.3 available free for download. And
then there's the System 7.5 Network Access Disk too, which should boot
on the SE/30.
I still own the only Mac I ever bought new. It's a IIci. I wanted a
SE30 when
they came out but was still paying off the IIci. :-)
I wanted a Mac since the 128, but my father, an employee of IBM,
wouldn't hear of it. :) Poor guy - he's still with Windows... and
except for my toys I'm on Tiger now.
