When the power goes out, you have no phone, like during a lightning storm, very common here in Texass. Hence the reason we no longer use earthlink phone, vonage phone, timewarner phone, skype phone, etc. Of course your cell will work if it's charged :) All of these computer based phones are only practical as supplements to another system.
