And why KDE had to use it exclusively (I guess, motivated by the same reasons that led them to go with the K I guess) instead of smbmount/smbfs etc, beats me. smbfs performance is much better, though of course there are currently issues with large files (>2GB), but I don't think kio_smb gets anywhere near that anyway.
