Jan, This just occured to me.... When I had beta3 installed and just before RC1 came out qt3 and lib1t3 where upgraded. Let me see if my older disks are anywhere around... (slim chance) but just about that time my ability to launch kde3 died. And at that time I was using XFree 3.3.6 (the performace is better in an ATI Mobility chip than earlier versions of the 4 series XFree) Now if I go into 3.3.6 I get the exact same reaction from kde in normal mode as I do in Xnest or vnc with 4.3. The error it dies on is that DCOP server is failing. btw I can reproduce this error at any time by switching from one XFree version to the other. I found libqt3 8mdk and current is 13 let me downgrade and try it....
