For what it is worth, here are the messages I get when
a pcmcia lan card is removed.

Mar 2 04:54:00 sidell kernel: xircom_remove_one(eth0)
Mar 2 04:54:00 sidell kernel: cs: cb_free(bus 7)
Mar 2 04:54:00 sidell /etc/hotplug/net.agent: NET
unregister event not supported
Mar 2 04:54:00 sidell /etc/hotplug/pci.agent: PCI
remove event not supported

Is it possible that this could have something to do
why the laptop crashes and reboots upon resume from
suspend when a pcmcia lan card is active?

A requirement of creativity is that it contributes to change. Creativity keeps
the creator alive.
