Hi, I posted the following message to alt.os.linux.mandrake. Mdk 9.0 will not install
on my box, very many errors:

I have similar problems with installing 9.0. I have downloaded all three isos
and checked them with md5sum, they were OK. I burnt them on CDR.
After the failed install I redownloaded the first iso and burnt it on a
different brand CDR. I did the install from 2 different CDROM-Drives, text, expert
vgalo, and normal install. So, I'm pretty sure the iso's weren't corrupt or the
CDR's bad.I have installed 8.2 afterwards, no problem with that. So I don't think
it's my hardware.

This is what happened: After package selection, the first error to pop up was
that something went wrong installing the XFree86 RPM, would I like to continue ?
I clicked yes, and all three CD's were installed. Then I got to the printer setup
and the installer tried to install some printer-related packages, and all of them
gave the same error as with the XFree RPM. I clicked through the error and
test-printing did not work. After the printer-setup-stuff I had to configure
the services, but no services were there to be activated, just an empty setup
screen with 0 services. Then I got on to install the bootloader, the first
message was: mkinitrd failed. I tried to setup grub, knowing that there would be
no initial ramdisk, so the system would be unable to boot. X-Configuration was
skipped automatically, however I definitely selected X during package selection.
Then I rebooted, and I got the grub-prompt, no graphical selection screen,
only the grub-prompt. I could not do anything with this, and was unable to
boot the system. Had to boot with my ramlinux-rescue-floppy and copied the
install logs to floppy. When I examined the partition with the fresh install,
I discovered that the XFree and mkinitrd packages were installed, so why the
errors during install ?

I also tried installing from Windoze. when I ran autostart and clicked install
Mandrake nothing at all happened.

Is this the new "killer" from Mandrake? I have never had so much trouble installing
Mandrake, from 6.2 on. The only redeeming feature here is that my partitions were
not trashed, which happened to my DOS partition while installing 8.0.

Is there a possibility GTK 2 is backported to 8.2 ? I need the new ROX RPMS, so
I can build some other ROX-related RPMS. I think I have to stick with 8.2, which
is really bad, because I cannot build RPMS for 9.0 now.

Something from the logs (where can I send these logs ?):
