You never have to use a crock pot liner.  It is a choice I always choose to
use them because I'm lazy and don't like cleaning out the crock pot much.
My pot lifts out of my slow cooker and it does clean easily, but I'm just
lazy and don't like to spend much time cleaning the pot.

Crockpot liners have an opening and it's large otherwise nothing would be
able to be put into them.
