Alan, I have a 415C with a C85 and stromberg. My coupe came with an EGT which basically told me the engine was running. I normally cruise about 1500 agl (I have been as high as 6500 once) and never use the mixture control (which does not do much). I finally removed the EGT and installed a CHT in its place. Since I have both an oil filter and the extra C85 baffling my CHT's stay well below readline (525 deg) but they do climb as high as 425. Personally if I ever rebuild my spare coupe it will be as simple as when it left the factory (except for hidden radios behind the glove box doors). I would not recommend the EGT but a CHT may make you more (or less) comfortable in TX in the summer.
