Alan I have both in my Cadet. The EGT only serves to confirm that my leaning is correct (I lean by RPM and confirm by the gauge). This is a rare occasion as like you I rarely cruise for long periods of time at altitude. I really do recommend the CHT. On the rare occasions that I climb to altitude, it helps me keep an eye on the engine temp if it starts to get too warm (as it tends to in the summer). Hope this was of some use to you.
