Now if I was hearing a *whining* sound from my starter I would tell
her to keep flipping. Haa, just kidding. That one was told to me
last night by a Cub owner who said the same thing except about her
     husband :)

Well I went to start up the ole C-85 last night and heard this
strange
grinding sound and the prop would start to try to turn over but then
would stop. Sounded like the solenoid wasn't engaging or something
but I'm not sure and was wanting to get some info before tearing into

things. This is the absolute *first* time I have heard any such
noise
from the starter. Kind of weird to happen all of a sudden like that,

usually "sounds" give you a hint of warning before they get real loud

(or in some cases really really quiet!)

So what sayeth you all, what are the odds on what's wrong? Best way
     to go about fixing?

     Thanks!

Oh, all you NW Coupers need to come to our Central OR Fly-In this
weekend. Tonight (Friday) there's a fish and chips dinner (fresh
fish!) and a live band with dancing (50s and 60s sound, 16 pc
orchestra) and a nighttime pyrotechnics airshow. Tomorrow there's a
bunch of fun activities and airshows. Come on over to the dry side
of
the mtns!!! www.eaa617.org has a flyer with more info. Hope to see
     you!
