After a few starts this way the starter just quit turning the engine. It was the bendix clutch on the back of the starter. I ended up having the whole starter rebuilt to the tune of a little over $400.00. Afterward I found out you can get the clutch portion only for around $200.00. It is extremely easy to fix yourself if you can get someone to sign off your work. Ed
