Thanks for the advice on how to repair the old riveted tanks. I guess I
should have been more specific when I asked the question. The tanks I need
to
repair are on a 1967 Alon, serial # 238. When I had the wing fairing open
to
look for corrosion, I found the outboard end of the tank was welded on,
not
riveted. The fuel filler is also welded in, not riveted. Therefore, I
assume
the inboard end is also welded. The outside of the tank is smooth except
for
the three rows of rivets running around the tanks from top to bottom in
approximately the same location as the ridges in the old riveted tanks.
The
rivets hold three stiffeners/baffles in place inside each tank. That is
why I
assumed that I would have to cut a hole in the end of the tank to gain
access
to be able to buck the rivets.
I may try the "cherry Max" rivet with PRK, unless someone has a better
idea.
Thanks Lynn Nelsen
