Hi Bob, I think you should cover with fabric both the holes in the wing and the stub...to help keep out mice, bees, etc....and cut down on noise and excess air flow (cold wind)... I didn't cover mine when I redid the wings last time, but am going to do so this time....especially to keep out the wasps, hornets, etc...
