I use Mobile-1 synthetic oil in a Mazda Miata because the hydraulic lifters clattered on startup when any other oil was used. A friend of mine tried Amsoil and he said it made the problem worse, which was strange. After trying the same viscosity in Mobile-1, his problems went away, so there is apparently some difference among the synthetics.
