Steve,
As I tried to explain, but obviously didn't do an adequate job of it, the oil doesn't have 200 hours on it at the change. It's basic math, I usually get about 4-5 hours per quart(6-7 if I'm doing x-country only). Now with a 5 quart oil capacity that means that every 25 hours I've essentially replaced the oil. Yes there is carbon suspended in it but I figure that since I am using a filter that has probably 100 times the filtration capability as the screen that is used on all small Continentals that have not een fitted with a filter it can't be too big an issue. I also figure that since I have roughly 2,200 hours SMOH and 1050 STOH. I'm pretty satisfied with that if reliability is the issue. Having suffered 3 stuck valves once using Phillips X-Country, none since I switched. I pretty much have to say that you will have no fear of me depleting the supply of Phillips X-Country or Aeroshell for that matter.

I'm not trying to encourage any of you into switching to Mobil 1, just trying to help debunk some of the urban legends concerning synthetics.

BTW oil is not the only thing that seems to have improved over the years, while you fly behind what is essentially the ignition system off a 1930's tractor don't you ever wonder why the automotive industry who not only has to maximize performance but has to stand behind it's products financially uses solid state ignition systems. Wouldn't it be cool if the aircraft industry had to stand behind an AD like the automotive industry has to stand behind a recall. :-)
