I guess people with the 'real' Ercoupes are just a little smarter
than
the people with the after-market copies.
Oops, that wasn't very nice was it? (Not serious, just sarcastic)
Actually, I don't think it's very smart to smoke at all. But if you are,
indeed, a nicotine addict and must have your fix, for goodness sakes do
it on the ground, not while sitting in a plane with a fuel tank in your
lap. Surely anyone smart enough to obtain a pilots license should be
smarter than that! If you have no more concern than that for your own
safety then please think about the reputation of the Ercoupe, don't
bring a bad statistic to it's good reputation for safety. (Like that guy
who wrote the otherwise good article about Ercoupes in the magazine last
year and then ruined it by making the statement that Ercoupes were very
prone to catching fire when forced to make an emergency landing.)
Anyway, back to your original question...Fred Weick designed the
'near
perfect' airplane and I'm very pleased that he was smart enough to leave
a cigarette lighter out of it.
