I believe AOPA does much more to preserve airspace and minimize regulation than EAA and is the more powerful lobby because it is more broadly based.
The only broadly based accomplishment I associate with EAA
is the autogas STC. Other than that, my '65 and '72 Wichita
spam-can airplanes didn't apply and I found enough
mis-information in the magazine to wonder how some
homebuilts stay in the sky.
I would also rank the Cessna Pilot's Association at least
even with the EAA in terms of finding and heading off
airframe/engine regulatory problems - great publication too.
If it's publications you are interested in ranking, the very
high priced "Light Aircraft Maintenance" will save you more
in understanding and fixing your machine than its
subscription within a few months.
