Thanks for your letter. Nice to see that you did get a response from Tom, and nice to see that you feel the way I do.
Bob Mackey phoned me Tuesday night to clarify some of the statements
he made at our meeting on Saturday and to tell me about some of the policy
changes.
1. The three month trial membership will not
be renewable with another three month membership, only with a full membership.
2. Eating around airplanes was just his idea
to toss out to us at the meeting, not policy. He sees that it will
cause problems now that he thought about it.
3. Each new member will be given a card which
will state the rules of the convention as they enter.
4. There will be a big spread in the April
issue of Sport Aviationmagazine outlining the new procedures at
the convention. It will emphasize what they will call "Oshkosh Ettiquite."
We are making progress. Little guys like us can make a difference if we try.

I witnessed so many smoking incidents at Oshkosh last year that I
wrote a letter to Tom Poberezny expressing my concern. In addition I
also added that the 'open flight line' was prompting a greater
incidence of people abusing (either inadvertently or carelessly)the
display airplanes. Finally I registered a protest about all the
broadcast commercialism that seemed to have crept into the airshow and
prelims.I did receive a prompt response from Tom indicating that my comments
were not unique and something would be done at next year's Oshkosh.
Looks like some form of follow up is in the works.
