This does not mean that serving XHTML 1.0/1.1 as text/html does not
ensure cross browser and search engine support. I can assure everyone
that serving XHTML 1.0/1.1 as text/html works fine with search engines
as well as browsers. If someone knows of a browser or search engine
that does not like this, please say so.

Until then, while serving XHTML as text/html may be bad form, it's not
destructive. I think using XHTML is good for the design community,
because it tells the browser companies that we really want them to get
their browsers to support XHTML correctly.

That being said, there's nothing wrong with using HTML 4.0/4.01.
