This is one of those things that becomes more true the more you say
it, same as "I WILL stop smoking" and "the stock market will collapse."
If one keeps on saying "My vote is worthless, I have no power", then
eventually, sha-zam, it is so. So people disenfranchise themselves,
then whine about being conspiracies rendering them powerless, just
like they dine on MacFood and blame their obesity on "big bones", a
genetic conspiracy.  To avoid being fat, just eat right and exercise;
to avoid being powerless, just think clearly and exercise some voting
power. Why, some years I exercise my franchise so much, it's plumb
wore out... [we had eight (8!) primary, general and special elections
in my precinct in 1997. Whew.]

But let's say that you're right, that voting is rigged, it doesn't
matter, that The Conspiracy determines all the outcomes. Does The
Conspiracy concern itself with EVERY election? Was the fix in when
ex-Gov. Jerry Brown won his first election, to a school board, or
when Sen. Barbara Boxer won her first, to a city council, or when
Ronald Reagan won his first, to a union board? Is the fix in when
voters approve measures to cut property taxes, recycle, disinvest
in dictatorships, build schools? I think not.

True, many of the decisions that strongly affect us are NOT made in
arenas with public oversight - like, corporate boards. So, do we
totally give up on voting, so we can whine more about powerlessness?
Or do we push for more legal accountability by corporate entities?
Which would you prefer?
