-Caveat Lector-
This man's entire life is being destroyed based on speculation and rumor.
It hasn't even been established that a CRIME has been committed. If you do
not wish to step back and ask, "why is this happening to him, and why all the
coverage when there are far more serious matters to scrutinize?" then that's
your business. Amelia's Little Book of Etiquette seems to make room for
revelling in gossip, so I don't feel inspired to take advice on "how to be
above all this gossip" from such a deficient source.
My goal is to remind people how easily ANYONE could be destroyed under such
a ruthless media spotlight, and that we need to retain standards of evidence
before taking part in an orgiastic bloodbath of character assassination like
this.
Pick his life apart AFTER there is evidence that he participated in a
crime, not BEFORE, and certainly not before it's even been established that a
crime EXISTS. Otherwise the atmosphere is ripe for this to happen to you,
your friends, your loved ones, ANYONE. Do you really wish to be party to
creating such a political climate? Was nothing learned from the MacCarthy
years?
