Steven Brake and I went to New Bern this morning for the Cyclists going Coastal rides and did the 100 mile. We saw fellow CoW Cynthia walking towards registration as we were rolling out. The century course was very fast, very flat (once we got over the bridge) and a had bunch of riders. Steven and I stayed with a large peleton of about 20 riders for the first 40 miles and then smaller groups to the end. As you can see from the average, the peletons rolled at high speed especially at the beginning when the route was downwind. Steven was very strong and did several very tough pulls. He pulled me as I struggled from 70 miles to the rest stop at 88 miles. After that, in spite of the headwind, I held on much better until the run up to the bridge where I fell back slightly. This is a great course that used several roads from the CNC Spring rides. 100.87 miles at 19.5 mph average. Steven could have been faster, but had an anchor holding him back. This was a fantastic day for a ride.
