Thanks for your thoughts. I can create OpenOffice document files easily,
but I haven't figured out the automation side of things. The pyUno
interface looks a little 'rough' and appears version sensitive. I'm
hoping that I can display (preview), print, and/or generate PDF's
through a command line interface.

I've started to research OO command line options as well as how to
distribute a standalone, light-weight version of OpenOffice Writer
(apparently this is a lot more more difficult than one might expect).
