A reflection on today's Scripture:
Television is full of sports these fall weekends and we are familiar
with the time-out/intermission scenes when the team quickly reflects
and regroups with plans. St. Paul sets the same scene as he reflects
on the history of persecution among those who spread the Good News.
His tone however is one of joy... joy because of the privilege they
have to be among the chosen and the joy awaiting them as they meet
their own destinies.
St. Paul speaks with assurance and confidence reminding Christians
that God is in control and will complete the work He has begun in each
of us. That is such a good reminder! Having said that he reminds us of
our responsibility to study the life of Christ. That is, of course, no
task as the lover seeks to know the Beloved! Today's Psalm reminds us
that God nourishes those who fear Him; that God never forgets his
covenant with His people!
Again, we are reminded of the sports scene, reflecting on the best
plays, the best lessons when St. Luke reflects on the day Christ chose
to cure the man with dropsy. Christ highlighted the importance of
doing what is the will of the Father even if it seems to go against
the norms of the day. It is a big motivator to gather as a group and
discuss and reflect on the insights of the Christ and the means He
chose to fulfill the will of our Father! Let us go forth and spread
the Good News with joy!
