Today is the Feast of the Presentation of Mary in the Temple. When
only a small child, Mary's parents consecrated her to the service of
the Lord. And how wonderfully she carried out that Consecration --
with total giving of herself and her talents. How humbly she entered
into God's plan for the salvation of the world. Years of
patient, skilled caring for the Son of God and the Son of her own
womb. Then, during His earthly ministry, joining into the circle of
Jesus' followers -- helping with the day to day life of ministry,
encouraging His disciples, helping explain His message to the
confused.

How do we carry out the consecration of our Baptism? Will it be said
of us as in the first reading today, that we put on the appearance of
being alive, but we were really dead? That we were neither hot nor
cold? Today is a day for close examination of conscience, and then of
renewal of our consecration to the Lord and His kingdom."
