The Thirty-Fourth Week in Ordinary Time

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
     Revelation 14:14-19
     Psalm 96:10-13
     Luke 21:5-11

A Reflection on Today's Scripture:

The image presented to us in today's reading is either that of
Christ, our King and our Judge, or an Angel who represents Him. As
soon as the command comes from the Father through another angel,
Christ begins his work of reaping. The harvest is ripe, for Time is
at an end, leaving only Eternity. The Time for Mercy is past; it is
now the Era of Justice, for all is cast into the Wine Press of the
Wrath of God. In the Gospel, Jesus predicts both the Destruction of
the Temple and the End-time of Judgment.

And how about the clergy of the Church? They are part of the severest
sentence for Judgment, because to them has been given the charge of
speaking in God's name.

Indeed, food for much thought, prayer and meditation. How faithful
have I been to my charge up to this point in my ministry? How must I
change? How must I give more than I have so far given? How much
penance must I perform that hearts will be changed, and lives
reformed? As a priestly people, all in the Church are called to
justice. Be thankful that we are still in the time of mercy! But, for
how long?
