If I know I'm working on a draft I tend to record something like this
at the end of the session:
darcs record -ma 'draft: Foo'

Then at the end of the next hacking session I can:
darcs amend-record --edit-long-comment

If it's finally ready then I can remove "draft:" from the patch name
and send it in. Sometimes you have to unrecord and record small
patches. Your mileage may vary.

I like to believe maintainers are unlikely to apply patches that say
'draft' in the name.

Thanks,
Jason
