About Wayland:
Well, yes, that has a point.
But that will not happen until certain conditions are met:
1. Full gtk3 port is in place
2. I have a working Wayland on my computer to test stuff before submitting
patches :)

About gnome:
I do not think so, and I have a very bad attitude to any such integration with
the gnome.
I do NOT want to start another GUI gtk-qt-gnome-kde-whateverelse holywar so i
will not write any reasons or alternatives for that.

When you port to Gtk3, just make sure to not use any of the X11 gtk stuff
directly to make sure it will work with Wayland. Also, it would be nice to use
the Gnome-shell application menu to provide access to things like preferences,
import, change views and things like that. Note that I do not suggest to remove
this from the normal gui but provide additional ways to access it if the
gnome-shell menu is available (
https://wiki.gnome.org/GnomeGoals/PortToGMenu[1] ).

Wouldn't it be better to have one pr of small organized commits? It would allow
us to see the big picture better...

Hello list!
I would like to start a discussion about porting darktable to gtk3.

Current port status(using my branch gtk3-porting[1]): most of the work is
already done. DT now compiles with gtk3, but is not actual working GTK+3 gui :)
But my branch is just a lot of huge unstructured commits.

I would like to split my branch into BIG amount of simple, self-sufficient
commits, and send each one as PR.
For now, there won't be any commits that would actually port DT from gtk2 to
gtk3, but they will just prepare codebase for it.

What do you think?

I'm already prepared first branch-PR candidate: [2]
If it would be decided that this idea is ok, i'll send a PR.
