There's an RFC put out a while back that specifies how these "magical
mail headers" should work for mailing lists. Pine knows about the RFC
and is programmed to take advantage of it.

As more mailing list mgmgt programs become savvy to the RFC, more list
messages will have these headers, and hopefully eventually all MUAs will
support them as well.
