John, What you are describing here sounds like a combination of radio button and checkmark. What I had been talking about was a checkmark where you had to turn it on and off. Of course I see why that could get tedious if you are going back and forth a lot as is intended. I havent thought enough about it, but I think you can do both. Either a single selection, by clicking on the text of the item, or clicking on a check box that locks the item into place. And then perhaps a button for select all or something. This would have to be played with to get right but I think it can be done without any shifting, which I agree would be bad.
