I believe there are hotkeys for turning on various a11y key features.  If 
you do something like hit SHIFT five times, this turns on StickyKeys.
You might check your System->Preferences->Keyboard and make sure that such
a11y features haven't been enabled by accident.

Also the Keyboard Accessibility Status applet is useful for seeing visually
if you accidently turned on/off a feature like this.  If you have a tendancy
to accidently do things like tap the SHIFT key, this can help you notice
when.
