Hi, Vijay Opensolaris is an open community, there's no policy that projects with similar functionality should not co-exist in the community.
I am not familiar about the other device manager project. I was told that both the structure and the GUI are different. If this is the case I'd say that it won't hurt to have both these projects on opensolaris. For Hal Device Manager (the project in discussion which is composed of GNOME device manager and HAL support), I have to say that it is something that worth the effort. 1. The project is based on HAL, and HAL is now popular in the opensource world 2. quite a lot of projects on solaris depends on HAL, it is sensible to develop base on the existing architecture. 3. GNOME device manager is now in ubuntu core, which means its value has been recognized. 4. By utilizing the existing projects in the open source community, I would say it will benefit Solaris, since we can both make use of the contribution of the community as well as contributing our efforts back. This enhances the cooperation between openSolaris and the other opensource communities.
