Software delivered via the Desktop (aka JDS) consolidation, or ported
via the source juicer project to the /contrib repo, or the

Use pkgtool to build them into SVR4 or IPS packages, then install those.

spec files are a recipe for building packages that can be distributed
via IPS - they're the build instructions, shared so others can apply
their own changes.   IPS is for binaries, not sources & build instructions.
